Netflix series filming to cause road closure

MovieFilming

Filming for Netflix series "Pieces of Her" will take place on Church Street at the Budget Inn motel and the building directly across the street that housed the Blue Rodeo bar/restaurant many years ago. Production crews have been on both sites this week getting them preppred for filming. A new temporary sign has been put up at the old bar, and trim and doors were being painted at the motel Friday afternoon. The Budget Inn sign has also been removed.

A section of Highway 53 East will be closed for portions of three days, from July 13 through the early morning hours of July 15 while scenes for Netflix series Pieces of Her are filmed.

According to Pickens Economic Development Director Green Suttles, the production company will be filming primarily at the Budget Inn motel and the building directly across the street that was once home to the bar and restaurant the Blue Rodeo, but which has sat vacant for over a decade.

“They wanted that bar façade and  motel look for the scene. They were quite enamored with that spot,” said Suttles who has been in conversation with the production’s key assistant location scout manager Ashley Foxx, as well as the Georgia Department of Transportation, the local sheriff’s office and city of Jasper officials.

The road will be closed on Tuesday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Then again on July 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning. Detours will be set up.

Suttles said there could also be intermittent traffic delays at Prestige Auto Repair on Wall Street behind the Old Mulehouse, as a scene could be filmed at that service station.

Pieces of Her is based on the bestselling thriller novel of the same name, written by Karen Slaughter and published in 2018. The Netflix page describes the plot: “When an afternoon outing explodes into violence, a young woman’s view of her mother is forever changed.”

Some main cast members include Toni Collette (Academy Award-nominated Australian actress, best known for her roles in The Sixth Sense and Little Miss Sunshine), Jessica Barden (The End of the F***ing World, The Lobster), Nicholas Burton (Graduation, Dave & Theo, and Jackrabbit), Bella Healthcote (Relic, Strange Angel, The Man in the High Castle), Joseph Maxwell (Game of Thrones, Skins), and others.

Suttles said the location scout has been very thorough vetting the area, and working with local government entities and officials to arrange the filming.
