Wood wins first at state rodeo

Jordann Wood became the first Pickens County rodeo contestant to every take home the first place buckle at the state level last weekend.

Jordann Wood of Jasper won first place for the 2019 Pole Bending GA High School Rodeo  Association State Championship. Last weekend, Jordann took home the average and yearly buckle at the State Finals in Perry. Jordann is a junior at the Mountain Ed. Charter High School.

Not only is Jordann the first Pickens County rodeo contestant to ever take home the first place buckle at the state  level,  but she achieved this riding  the oldest horse in this year’s competition. Her amazing mare, Jessi, proved herself

beyond a doubt,  coming into the competition a few months shy of 23. Jordann and Jessi competed against incredibly fast, young, experienced horses and riders that were laying down 19/20 second runs, without breaking  a sweat.

This winning duo never failed to prove that  consistent, clean runs could steadily gain the win, ultimately ending  the year with a 20 plus point lead.

In July,  Jordann will head to the National High School Championship Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Jordann is looking forward to proudly representing the state of Georgia and Pickens County.
