Education, geography biggest factors in age for first time moms in Pickens, throughout country
Women in Pickens County become mothers at earlier ages than women in more affluent metro Atlanta counties but are similar in age to other north Georgia women and those in far south Georgia.
If you are a typical Pickens County woman, the age at which you will likely have your first child is 23.6, according to an analysis of four decades of births from data from the National Center for Health Statistics. But for women here with a college education, the age rises to 28.7, a full five years later. The average age for married women here to have children is 25.
