The Dragons had a bye last week that allowed them a little extra time to prepare for the rivalry game against the Gilmer Bobcats this Friday. The Dragons wrapped up non region play with a record of 2-2 and hope to pick up some momentum heading into region play where they hope to earn a playoff berth for the fourth straight season.
Coach Parker said that they really focused on themselves in the off week and just tried to get better at the fundamentals.
“We spent last week trying to work on us, getting back to fundamentals and trying to play sound football.”
As this week approached, they turned their focus to the Bobcats, whose option offense could pose some problems for the Dragons.
“They are a true option team like Georgia Tech or Air Force and the key to playing those teams is assignment football. We have to make sure that our guys understand what their responsibility is on every play.”
To top things off this week is Homecoming for the Dragons.
“We never really planned for this week to be Homecoming it kind of just happened that way. The schedule fell so that we had to play this game as Homecoming,” Parker said. “I think that it adds to the excitement, the students seem to like it, we had our Homecoming festival on Monday and they’ve had spirt week in the school. The enthusiasm from the students is what makes this such a fun game to be a part of. We are looking forward to a big crowd and a lot of excitement this Friday.”
Come out and support the Dragons as they host the Bobcats at 7:30 at Dragon Stadium.
