It's hard to understand the mystique of the game of golf. Some call playing it a "death wish," and Mark Twain called golf "a good walk spoiled."
No matter whether you love golf or not, The Fox on the Fairway will tickle your funny bones and keep you laughing after you leave the Tater Patch Players theater. The show pokes fun at our obsession with winning and a game where you use a stick to hit a little ball around a big lawn. And it does this all in good fun.
Come out to Tater Patch Players the next three weekends for a good laugh.
There will be a share night, as always, for Tater Patch's July 7 dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. The troupe invites those who might not otherwise be able to see the show to come, share their laughter and bring a bag of non-perishable food or toiletry items for the CARES food pantry.
The performance dates are July 15, 16, 17, 24, 25 and 26. The Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. and the others at 7:30 p.m.
Audition call for Mama Won't Fly
And if all this talk of comedy have given you the itch to get onstage yourself, the next play to be cast has lots of opportunities for beginning and veteran actors. Mama Won't Fly, by our favorite comedy-writing trio of Hope Jones and Wooten, will be cast July 10 and 11, but doesn’t open until September 16, for 4 weeks (one of which is in Ellijay). That means plenty of rehearsal time for the cast.
The play is about a Southern lady (of course!) who wants to get to her son's wedding on the west coast, but she won't get on an airplane.
Thus begins a hilarious road trip across the USA, meeting all sorts of interesting people. Mama, her daughter and her daughter-in-law to be are big parts for women from twenty-something to "mature". The folks they meet on the way offer a number of smaller and equally hilarious acting opportunities.
With smaller parts and a long rehearsal period to learn lines and stage movement, what better chance for you aspiring actors to give it a try. Auditions will be from 6 - 8 PM on July 10 and 11 at the Tater Patch Players theater.
To audition you will be asked to read some scenes from the show, and those scripts are available to look over at auditions.
Come one day, or both and stretch your wings! Let's put more of the community in our community theater!
