Mrs. Margaret H. Dobson, 91, passed away on December 27, 2017 at Pruitt Health Center in Jasper surrounded by her family. Margaret was born January 18, 1926 in Tate, GA to the late Hill and Grace Callahan.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, J. W. Dobson, brother, Charles Callahan and sister, Emily Wheeler.

Twelve grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren also survive.

Margaret was a retired third grade teacher who was still remembered fondly by many of her students. She started her educational career as a teacher’s aide in the Follow Through Program at Jasper Elementary School. While working there, she decided to return to school to obtain her teaching degree. She did this while working full time and raising five children. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and continued to teach until she was 70 years old.

After retirement, Margaret and J. W. became active members of the Yaarab Shrine Club and enjoyed raising money for the Shriner’s Hospitals and traveling with fellow Shriners to parades and conventions all over the Southeastern United States.

If you knew Margaret, you knew that she hated housework! A magnet that was on her refrigerator said “A clean house is the sign of a boring person”. She enjoyed nothing better than playing board games, cards or any other games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to read and go camping and fish with J. W. on Lake Lanier.
